FAQ’s
Q: How can I get you to set up my self-hosted Wordpress Blog for free?
A: You need to get your domain name and a hosting package from one of my two favoured hosting companies. For the United Kingdom and Europe: Heart Internet or for USA, Canada: BlueHost. It really doesn’t matter which you choose - if you live in England there’s no reason why you can’t host in the U.S. for example.
I recommend these two as I know my way around their sites and you won’t find better value hosting anywhere else in my opinion. I have a good relationship with their Support team. More importantly they pay me a small commission for new customers ( i.e. you) so it’s important you register with them via the two text links above or the ads on the right so that they know you’ve arrived on my recommendation.
Whichever hosting company you choose they’ll send you an e-mail with all your Login details - I’ll need you to forward that to me with some other optional info ( see below).
Once you’ve set up your hosting you’ll need to sign up to my weekly Blogging Newsletter, lots of cool ideas and pointers to improve your blog.
Q: What if already use another hosting company?
A: In that case I’m afraid, at this time, I won’t set up your blog for you. However, as I make it pretty clear on this site what I do and will regularly publish information for those that don’t need, or are not eligible for my services, you should still sign up for more info from me to help you out and get the best insights on your blog set up and its optimization for Serach Engine rankings etc.
Q: What else do you need from me?
A: Apart from the all important e-mail from the hosting company detailing your Login details ( don’t worry you can change your passwords etc. after I’ve done my job) I’ll need the following (all optional):
- If you want me to activate the Statcounter plugin for you, so you can easily check out your visitor statistics, you need to sign up at Statcounter ( it’s free) and create an account for your new domain name and send me the code they give you at the end of the process.
- Let me know the e-mail address you want to use for visitors to the blog to contact you via the Contact page I’ll set up with a Contact form on it.
- If you want me to sort out your RSS feeds through Feedburner (recommended) and create a subscriber opt-in form on the site you need to set up a Feedburner account and let me have the sign in information when you’ve done so.
- Go to www.Wordpress.com and set up an account - this is not to set up a blog but purely to get access to your API key ( a long, unique string of letters and numbers) I need this to activate the essential anti-spam Akismet plugin.
If you don’t include the optional extra info mentioned I’ll assume you either don’t want those services are are happy to set them up yourself at some time in the future.
Q: So what next?
Once you’ve got all that info together then sign up for the free service, and blog tips newsletter below. You will, once you’ve confirmed, receive the e-mail address where you need to send that info so I can get started.
To Recap:
1) Get your domain name and hosting package sorted.
2) Sign up for the optional services you want me to install.
3) Sign up in the box above and confirm that I can send you information.
4) Email the info I need via the email address you’ll receive after step 3.
I reserve the right to refuse to set up a blog if any of the previously mentioned, no cost, conditions are not met. I also reserve the right to withdraw this offer of a free blog set up at anytime and without explanation. I will place a small text link back to this page in the footer of your blog.
Were that to happen it would be clearly stated here in very large letters. For example if I get a mass of enquiries I will suspend the offer until the backlog of blogs is sorted out.
While your blog set up should be completed within 3 working days of my receiving your information this is not guaranteed as work and blog installations can back up due to amount of applications etc.
